 The Greek symbol of the Ouroboros depicts a snake eating its own tail for eternity. The common understanding of this symbol is of eternity in itself, when in fact it is eternal suffering at one's own hand. 
However, if you can recognize the suffering you cause yourself, you can break free.
If you've been eating your own tail for a long time, grant yourself rest and compassion; the compassion is what frees you.
